A Push Forward

I helped this little turtle out while I was out walking recently. I read that if you see a turtle in the street, you should always move them forward in the direction they are facing because they are clearly going somewhere. They don’t need to go back from where they came. They need to go forward. However, they just need to move just a little quicker.

Maybe turtles aren’t much different than we are. People don’t need to be pushed backward. They need to be pushed forward. To push someone backward and force them to cross the hard places twice, well, it’s just not helpful and increases their risk of becoming tired, discouraged and even wounded.

We all have “works that God prepared in advance for us to do.”(Ephesian 2:10) Mine aren’t yours and yours aren’t mine. But, I can push you forward in yours and you can do the same for me. The end result is something pretty amazing. We both keep plugging along in our own trajectory, and we ultimately reach the destination for which we set out. God molded us differently with different missions before us. Let’s push each other in the right directions.

“Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” Hebrews 10:24

Dear Father, let us be known for how we spur each other forward as we seek to love the way you love. In Jesus name, Amen.
