It’s All about a Baby
By the time you read this, my neighbors will welcome a new grandchild. She will be the parents’ first baby and will be born into a loving home. Their hopes are great for their baby and they are anxious to see what God’s plan is for her. Jeremiah tells us it’s a good plan and that God knows this baby’s name before it will take its first breath. Both grandparents and parents are looking forward to seeing where that plan takes this precious child.
I was reminded recently that God often starts with a baby when He implements a great movement. Look at Biblical history: God birthed a nation with Abraham and Abraham’s grandbaby Jacob would be called Israel, and Israel would birth the twelve tribes of God’s chosen people. One tribe, Judah, would birth the baby, Obed, who’s grandbaby David was the King after God’s own heart. David’s line would welcome the baby, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus, the Messiah, would grow from a baby in a manger to a grown man to be the sacrificial lamb on a cross so we could be “born-again” into the Kingdom. (Genesis 17, 25, 29, 35; Ruth 4; 1Samuel 16; Luke2)
Just like this new baby’s dad will give it many good gifts, Our Father gave us the gift of His only begotten Son, who is the divine movement of restoration for a fallen world. Jesus was able to live out His life plan and if we believe in Him we will have eternal life (John 3:16). God the Father calls us His daughters, co-heirs with Jesus.
2 Corinthians 6:18, “And I will be a father to you, and you will be sons and daughters to Me,”
Oh Lord, Your daughters humble themselves as we celebrate this season. Bless the efforts of our voices as they are lifted in Your praise. Let our light show Your glory in the dark places of this world, in Jesus’ precious name. Amen
