Each member of the Pastor Search Committee has selected specific scriptures as they work through the process of selecting the next pastor for First Baptist Jackson.

There are thirteen verses that you are also invited to use in your individual worship and prayer time. Accompanying some of the verses are specific prayer requests from committee members. Create your own plan for covering this committee in prayer and contact them from time to time at to let them know you are praying for them.

Your teacher will no longer hide himself, but your eyes will hear a word behind you, ‘ this is the way, walk in it’, whenever you turn to the right and the left. – Isaiah 30: 20b-21.

  • That we, as a committee, and the church body, will use this time and opportunity to discern what God wants for us and not to try to get God to give us what we want for ourselves.

My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.
9 Then you will understand what is right and just
and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Discretion will protect you,
and understanding will guard you.
– Proverbs 2:1-11

  • For wisdom and spiritual discernment for each of us as we seek God’s best for our church.

“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.” – Philippians 1:9-11.

  • That the pastor search committee and the church family would hope in God and seek Him wholeheartedly knowing that He is in control of the church’s future
  • That the search committee and the church family would hear the Spirit clearly

Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. – 2 Peter 1:2

DAY 13

Moses bowed to the ground at once and worshiped.  “Lord,” he said, “if I have found favor in your eyes, then let the Lord go with us. Although this is a stiff-necked people, forgive our wickedness and our sin, and take us as your inheritance.” Then the Lord said: “I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I will do wonders never before done in any nation in all the world. The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the Lord, will do for you. — Exodus 34: 8-10
