My Story for God’s Glory:
God’s Honor Made Known Through Writing

Terri Blackstock

Scripture: “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6

Response: It was 1994, and I had been making a living writing secular romance novels for 13 years when I came under intense conviction that God’s honor was at stake in the things I was writing, because I was a Christian who was glorifying sin.

I started praying about it, but I didn’t make myself accountable to anyone until one Sunday night in church when Larry Black had microphones set up throughout the sanctuary, and asked for testimonies of what God was doing in our lives. It was like God snatched me out of my seat and took me to the closest microphone, and I told the church that I felt convicted to leave my writing career and use the gift God had given me to write Christian books that glorified Him. That led to my making that firm commitment to God, and once I did that, He led me into a whole new career, writing Christian suspense novels that could change lives. Since then, I’ve written another 50 novels, all with Christian themes.

I have a binder of some of the favorite letters I’ve gotten from readers, telling me they’ve come to Christ, or they’ve been convicted to read God’s Word more, or they’ve been challenged to a deeper walk with Christ. There’s even one from a reader telling me her family had decided to donate her sister’s organs when she was killed in an accident, because she had just read one of my books that dealt with organ donation. When God changes lives using things I’ve written … well, that’s my idea of success.
