Jackson Students Take the Stage in the Big Apple

Jackson, MS, December 30, 2017 – This week thirty students participating in the Student Worship Arts program at First Baptist Jackson were in New York City serving others throughout the city and performing at Radio City Music Hall. When asked if performing on one of the most prominent stages in the country in front of a sold-out crowd of 6000 people is a chance of a lifetime, Christopher Thompson, a senior at Brandon High School replies, “it is a chance that doesn’t come around very often but I think that what we do and have done on choir trips with people we spend time helping — that’s the chance of a lifetime.” The group, which consists of students from around the Jackson-metro area and from various schools around the city, served in eight different mission areas in the Big Apple this week.

“It’s the best feeling knowing that you loved on someone and that God loves them too and all you have to do is point them to God and let Him do the work,” Christopher continues.

These same students will return and immediately start preparing for another great experience right here in Jackson. “There’s as much to do in Jackson as there is in New York City,” claims one parent, “and we’re excited about an annual student event called DNOW that is sponsored by our church,” she continues. DNOW is one of the largest student events and one of the most influential times of the year for students around Jackson.

During DNOW, Christopher says students get to see lives changed. “Many of the kids who come for the weekend aren’t affiliated with any church and many are not Christians. We get to tell our teenage peers about the love of Christ and many accept Christ and their lives are eternally changed. We also build stronger relationships with our own student friends here and we have a real chance to mentor the younger and first-time kids at DNOW,” he says.

The students return on Sunday from New York City to being preparing for the hundreds of students that they will host at DNOW, which begins on January 12 and continues through that weekend.
